I would think that most freelance writers and bloggers have heard about Plurk by now; it is a social site similar to Twitter, only a bit more user friendly from my point of view.
Plurking
The great thing about Plurk is that you can promote whatever you are doing on the fly. It is also a site where users can post questions and be sure of getting some answers from fellow plurkers. It seems to me that the best thing it has over Twitter is that communication appears more immediate and makes you feel more a part of a huge freelance writing and blogging community.
