Several months ago I picked up a client who wanted finance article rewrites at $7 a pop - the articles were around 450 words and I said yes. I completed about five articles for which he paid me $35 very promptly and these particular rewrites were really easy.

Please Write Me Some More Mrs Moore

Once the first batch of articles were completed the client asked for some more and I duly rewrote another five articles as he said that this was the way he wanted them. I sent them off and requested payment in the same way as before, but this time the payment wasn’t so prompt. After a couple of reminders, no more requests for articles and no payment I finally realised that I was not going to get paid for the other five articles. This was back in April. Monday I received an email from this client asking me if I wanted to do some more rewrites for him and I replied with a polite reminder that he hadn’t yet paid for the last batch. I have not heard back I suppose he realised that the request for a freelance writer with a hole in her head had fallen on deaf ears.

It wasn’t much money to lose but for the client to think that he could just pretend the other five articles didn’t exist made me wonder just why he assumed I was that dumb.
